Elton John reveals which iconic hit he DIDN’T want to release ‘Everybody said I was crazy’

The musician spoke as part of a TV documentary.

Elton John: The Nation's Favourite Song saw him speaking about his career - and the revelation that he didn’t think much of Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me.

Discussing how poor he is at predicting which of his songs will resonate, he said: “I’m terrible at it. One of them was Don’t Let the Sun Go Down On Me.

"And I remember writing it in the morning and my drummer Nigel Olsson - we were sharing a cabin, he was asleep - and I was downstairs writing, which must have annoyed him.

Taking to Instagram earlier this year, Elton also spoke passionately about Australia’s vote on same sex marriage.

“Almost 24 years ago, I met the person with whom I could be fully myself. When we married in 2014, it felt like that fact was accepted by the world,” he wrote.

“For David and I, being able to openly love and commit to one another, and for that to be recognized and celebrated is what makes life truly worth living.”

“I love Australia. I love its spirit, it's lack of pretense, it's passion. I hope it can embrace the honesty and courage that seeks gay marriage as an expression not of desire but of love. #loveislove #marriageequality.”
