Samira Said

Samira Said is a brilliant singer born in Morocco on January 10,1958, at Rabat. She is now living in Cairo. She started her career at the age of 8 years old with a participation in a TV show for young talents on the Moroccan TV. She caught the attention when she performed the songs of the diva Oum Kalthoum. By the time she reached 9 years old, she had already released her own singles "Achkoun Ahbebna" and "Kol Lel Malihati". At the age of 12 years old, the young Samira Said released her first audio tape entitled "Likaa".

In a short time, Samira Said became one of the leading names in her home country, recording many popular Arab songs such as "Kifach Tlakina", "Yemken Faytli Cheft" and "Sarkouh", not to mention "Al Behhara". Her best known singles at this time included "Maghlouba" and "Wa'ady". Loved at home and already an authority in the Moroccan music scene and with good personal savings, Samira Said traveled to Egypt where she started a new stage in her artistic career. In Egypt, she could choose the right composers for her songs. Samira totally severed her ties with Moroccan music styles.

She mainly performed in Egyptian dialect. Nevertheless, Samira sang in different Arab accents: in Syrian accent the song of "Nahr Echhem", in Lybian accent "Hannit Lek","Belech Tezaal" and in Yemeni accent "Hatou Habibi"and "Ah Men Ainek". Samira Said released many albums including: "El Hob Elli Ana Aaycheh"in 1975, "Bitakat Hob" in 1977, "Allemneh El Hob" in 1982, "Amrak Ajib" in 1986, "Ensani" in 1989, "Khayfa" in 1992, "Enta Habibi" in 1995, "Laila Habibi" in 2001, and "Aweeni Beek" in 2004. She is loved by the Arab public.

She has performed in many countries and on many prestigious stages as it was the case in 2005 and recently in 2010 at the Carthage Festival in Tunisia, singing a collection of songs in dialects varying from Moroccan to Egyptian and Lebanese. Samira Said has won several awards throughout her long career such as: a worldwide award in London for the best singer in North Africa and the Middle East and for being a model humanitarian artist. She was awarded the "Leader Prize" by King Mohamed 6th of Morocco in 2009 on the occasion of Kingdom Celebration.
